Our objectives

We aim to:

  • Minimise the incidence of preventable crime.
  • Deter criminal activity by increasing the probability of apprehension.
  • Reduce the fear of crime.
  • Increase the reporting of crime and suspicious behaviour.
  • Improve the degree of personal and household security through education.
  • Expand the program’s involvement in wider community safety and crime prevention initiatives.

How do we do that:

  • Deliver comprehensive target hardening education programs tailored to the specific needs of young families and new Australians in Victoria.
  • Establish strong partnerships with Victoria Police and the State Government to jointly address crime prevention initiatives and drive impactful change.
  • Increase awareness of crime prevention strategies, address perceptions of crime and expectations of police, through targeted marketing and communication efforts
  • Actively engage with the target market, including young families and new Australians through culturally sensitive, interactive, and inclusive initiatives
  • Support local NHW Groups in their crime prevention activities
  • Regularly evaluate and measure the effectiveness of our programs to ensure continuous improvement and maximum impact

Our purpose

Providing strategic leadership to the affiliated Neighbourhood Watch groups in Victoria by:

  • Strengthening the partnership of police and community working together to prevent crime and improve the safety, security and the quality of life for all Victorians;
  • Coordinating the Neighbourhood Watch program, including the facilitation of information exchange between groups throughout the state of Victoria;
  • Identifying and developing best practice, evidence based crime prevention responses to ultimately encourage community participation in building safe and confident communities; and
  • Improving community awareness and participation in watching out for and reporting suspicious behaviour.

Neighbourhood Watch Victoria acknowledges the 38 mobs, the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we operate, live, and gather as employees and volunteers. We recognise their continuing connection to land, water and community and pay respect to Elders past, present and emerging.
